“I know that I received an education that I can be proud of, one that I would recommend for anyone wanting to go to medical school.”
I am currently in the middle of my first round of exams for medical school and I just wanted to thank the Biology program at UB for one very important thing: a great pre-med program. In the time between undergraduate and medical school I have occasionally looked back and wondered if I would have been better off going to a different school, wondered whether other schools had better bio programs for a much cheaper tuition. But you can’t put a price on an education that prepares you for the challenges ahead and thus far I have felt that my education at UB more than prepared me for medical school.
A group of my classmates came from a school with a very large pre-med program that got at least 35 students into this school alone, as I was quizzing them on skin and the layers of the epidermis, they asked me how I knew so much about it. I laughed and said “Well it was all covered in my undergraduate.”
After the first test, which was today, they all struggled with cell biology and histology, and somehow it was pretty easy for me. For that I have the Biology program at UB to thank.
Somehow you taught me more in two years than these other students were taught in four years of pre-med at a much larger university with probably ten times the budget you have.
Now when I look back at my Alma Mater I don’t question whether I made the right choice. I know that I received an education that I can be proud of, one that I would recommend for anyone wanting to go to medical school. I just wanted to let you know that you are doing a good job and I for one am very grateful. Oh yes, and remind your students to keep their books… I do find myself referring back to my A&P quite frequently. That book is really worth its weight in gold!
