A Career-Focused Education

Education becomes a pragmatic and very powerful tool when it goes hand in hand with real work life experience. Based on this personal career philosophy, I decided to get involved with as many projects, consulting work and internships while I was studying my Master Degree in the College of Public and International Affairs at the University of Bridgeport.
The most relevant experiences that I could proudly share are:

  • the internship with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Brazil,
  • the consulting work with the German Enterprise for Development in Brazil,
  • the internship with the Ecuadorean Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Ecuador,
  • the program coordination of the 7th Annual Youth Assembly at the United Nations with Friendship Ambassadors Foundation in New York City,
  • and finally, the most recent internship and my current full time job with PricewaterhouseCoopers in Stamford, CT.

Career Paths and Opportunities

International relations and global development have different career paths. To put it in perspective, I see three possible roads that a student could take: the Non-Governmental Organization road, the Governmental or Institutional road, and the Private sector and/or corporate road. I was fortunate to have the experience of interning in these three called “roads” or “career paths,” and I decided to stay with the corporate world because of the growing opportunities it could offer for young professionals.

A Successful Career in a Competitive World

From my personal experience, I could say that we live in a very competitive world and although I do not think there is a master key to be successful in International Relations, good advice that I could give to future students is to be actively involved with all the activities and work experiences that can pave the way towards a fulfilling career.
